The Canadian border station in question was dead at the time...me and a guy with Alaska plates.Maybe they were bored...or had to keep their "numbers" up (thus justifying their continued existence/staffing)..or were using me as a training exercise.I don't know.

FWIW, I've had the same experience as a US citizen coming back to the US. The crossing at Houlton, ME has become a true example of ICE excess.

Part of the point I was trying to make is that they seemed to have a political agenda.Apart from the South African immigration officer I mentioned (whom I "met" during apartheid...seemed like a real "redneck") this is the only time I've ever felt a foreign immigration/customs officer had such an agenda.Particularly given who and what I am I'm stunned...and put off...by that treatment.

Hopefully,Ann Coulter won't experience even worse hostility from Canadian officials....as Mark Steyn apparently did.
