Iunderstand your fear. Most people feel the same as you--afraid not to because the dr. prescribes; just read everything you can about statins. If you haven't subscribed to Newsmax, do so and you will get bulletins on health news. Between the fact that the normal high for cholesterol as well as LDL, triglicerides, etc. were lowered drastically a couple decades ago, and the huge side effects listed for statins, plus the 2 or 3 huge research programs that have been terminated early because the statin group were having many more strokes and heart attacks tha the placebo group--I am much more afraid to take them than not.

My doctor had me on 80mg vytorin (zocor and zetia) (one reason for the combination was that the patent on zocor expired, but the combination would start a new patent). My cholesterol was about 90. I woke up one morning and could not walk. Finally diagnosed with statin induced myopathy (muscle damage). My quads were basically paralyzed and without your quads you cannot do much with your legs. The paralysis lasted about 3 months. Did a lot of reading and really got my eyes opened about cholesterol and statins. The studies and the reporting on the studies is misleading. I think that statins may just be one of the greatest marketing jobs right up there with cigarettes in the 50’s, bottled water and $5 coffee. Anyway there are a lot of very serious questions to be answered about cholesterol and statins.
