This is old news, folks. They’re talking about rhabdomyolysis, which is where your muscles can begin to breakdown, ache, and cause renal failure. It’s pretty rare.
If you’re on a lot of meds, it might be a wise move to consider crestor (rosuvastatin). It’s the cleanest of the statins with the fewest interactions with other meds.
I have a dear Aunt who was just recently diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis, she had been on Lipitor for less than a year. Her symptoms started out as leg cramps and dizziness, and was wrongly diagnosed w/ restless leg syndrome. She has always been a very energetic, hard worker, but she has been unable to even drive herself for the past few weeks...and will probably never recover fully.
Yep. The various heart publications indicate that if you're going to have problems, they normally will happen in the first few months.
Since 1995 I have taken high doses of Lipitor followed by simvastatin 80mg. I had 6 coronary bypasses in 1981 and now, 29 years later, the bypasses are still open. Liver and kidney functions have been normal, checked regularly. Haven't had muscle problems in that time so I'm not likely to be scared off quickly.
All my husband needed to read was Irreversible Muscle Damage
and he stopped taking statins.....dead legs went away after 3 days!
