The Israeli prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, has caved in to US demands over the Middle East peace process, opening the way for a resumption of talks with the Palestinians.
The humiliating climbdown, which came after a week of pressure from the Obama administration, has been announced as the Middle East quartet continues talks this morning in Moscow.

The meme that Israel is the obstacle to peace is an utter lie. Training children to hate is the cause of the Palestinians. You do not and can not find a corollary in Israel.
What has happened here? You have on one had a parliamentary democracy with a broad degree of individual liberty (with some practical limits given the war footing Israel must be on) versus a near dictatorship of fear run by an oligarchy of murderous Muslims.
Both are given the same opportunities and one prospers while the other defaults to poverty. Why?
The story doesn’t match the headline.
“A statement from Netanhayu’s office said he proposed a series of steps that would make it easier for the Palestinians to join the talks. He did not specify what these would be”
Wishful thinking on the part of the reporter.
How many years have we been hearing this BS, that Israel has to give ground, literally and figuratively, if there is to be peace. They do so, time and again, and there is still no peace. A sane person can only take from this oft repeated failed process that one of the parties in the situation is not interested in peace.
I believe the guardian is worse than the AP.
That's happening a lot these days. Obviously the lame stream media are now playing to those that don't read the story.
Sort of like those that don't read the bills.

This is a rehash of months old news. In order to persuade the palestinians to negotiate, Israel agreed, informally, to cease construction in the West Bank, and noted that in most cases there is a 2 to 3 year time frame. In return the palestinians agreed to nothing. Fine work, Mr. Mitchell. And they still refuse to negotiate. There's speculation that Israel will agree not to announce building plans in Jerusalem publicly, just issue the permits. Israel should have thought of that rather than use the announcements as a gimmick to turn western opinion against them.
Nathan caved in to Obama....what a loser.
