Was the "Greatest Generation" just a bunch of racists? Actor and producer Tom Hanks, promoting his new World War II series "The Pacific," suggested that the war with Japan was really all about American intolerance; and by the way, so is the war on terrorism.
In several interviews, Mr. Hanks presented a version of World War II in which racism played the dominant role. The Japanese "were out to kill us because our way of living was different," he told Time magazine. "We, in turn, wanted to annihilate them because they were different." Forget Pearl Harbor, the Bataan Death March and Tokyo's territorial expansionism. The United States was really fighting a war against human diversity, according to the former star of "Bosom Buddies."

I am not a stooge who finances the propaganda from Hollywood. I do not watch his movies so I cannot comment. I would guess most of his films are tripe but the masses like junk food too. Sounds like you like Obama’s close friends.
The WWII people weren’t racists, they were just terrible parents.
And if you think ‘Schidler’s List’ and ‘Saving Private Ryan’ are propaganda...
Hadn't thought of that before, but I expect you are correct. It's sad.
It’s also false. Spielberg had been making films about WW2 since he was a teenager.
Thanks. Good read.
Anything you say, Forrest Gump.
"Can we do another take on that one? ... I think my slip was showing"
Racism? Good God - the new Witchcraft. I hate what this country has turned into. This whole post just show how totally whacked the whole idea of ‘racism’ is.
Amazing how quickly Hollyweird libs change their minds....They were the “Greatest Generation”, now the most racist??
From the TVByTheNumbers story: Sunday nights premiere of HBOs The Pacific was watched by 3.1 million viewers another 900,000 or so caught the encore telecast bringing the cumulative total for the night to 4 million. I warned you last week not to expect numbers anywhere near the level of the premiere of Band of Brothers in 2001, which opened to 10 million. Changing TV viewing landscapes including more DVR, more On Demand and more choice in general I wouldve been shocked if it got anywhere near "Band of Brothers."
I watched the first episode and it does not, so far, compare to "Band of Brothers" but we'll see how it goes.
One small point, while I find William Sadler an excellent actor, he does not, so far, make as 'Chesty' Puller for me. He does not have the physic nor Puller's throaty, Virginia accented voice.
If Hanks’ assertion is true, then the liberals hero of heroes - FDR - was a racist of the highest order.
The Germans didn't beat the holy crap out of Hitler, then string him up by his heels.
The Japanese didn't beat the holy crap out of Tojo, then string him up by his heels.
The Italians didn't commit genocide.
Meanwhile, in the other half, an evil racist America was discriminating against Hitler's politically correct allies, the People's Republic of Japan.
Liberalism is interesting, isn't it?
How dense is the skull surrounding Hank’s brain if after being involved in Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers projects you conclude we were evil.
Ya know, as the bar keeps getting shoved higher and higher, I’m having less and less trouble with “racism” and “racists.”
In fact, I think I have reached the point where, if a politician has NOT been called racist, sexist, homphobic, and/or reactionary, I won’t vote for him. If he hasn’t pissed off the race pimps, NAGs, gay mafia, and progressives he is lacking in either principles or courage. In either case, he’s not suitable for office.
