A friend and I drove across the GW Bridge and onto the Thru-Way en route to Boston from the DC area earlier this year.
The tolls were obscene, and the roads were horrible. Potholes aplenty, very faint lane markings, only random streetlights working.
It almost reminded me of the int'l. airport in San Francisco, where in some terminals only random electrical outlets are working.
Reasons why I left Upstate NY 20 years ago:
1) TAXES and then MORE TAXES
2) Albany corruption
3) Union thugs running the business into the ground
4) Social programs that DO NOTHING to help ANYONE but state employees administering them.
5) Roads from hell
6) Welfare culture that promotes sloth rather than a work ethic
7) ZERO private sector jobs being created
8) a lot of former friends who absolutely believe government is THE solution and big business is THE problem
9) political families who believe they have a divine right to rule NY State
10) cities that look like East Berlin in 1982
The Ohio Turnpike Cashiers (which is what they are) get paid an average of $70,000.
Bingo. NYS is a huge social program state. It's the only way the politicians can stay in power. No freebies - no votes.
Most libs I know proudly state they don’t mind paying more taxes if they get more services.
They should be throwing parties with the news that New York is keeping their money.
I concur...
Adjust your state witholding to 15 dependents whether you have them or not, and quit voting for Democrats.
Tell your neighbors.
