I was once in a military surplus store with my (then) eight year old son, and I found well-used a German military cap, the kind with a bill on the front, that fit him perfectly. The only thing I could conclude is that the German army had at least one enlisted man with a head the size of an eight year old boy.

Toward the end of war, Nazi Jugend was mobilized to fight combat. Some were said to be as young as 12.

Upon first firefight, they were said to be instantly divided into two camps, the ones frightened like children, and the other who were typical teenagers with no sense of risk.
