Former Congressman Maffei...

He’s not running for reelection, I thought. That would make him an easy target.

Yes, so no net loss here, but he was considered undecided by most of the vote counters.

I think we need to prepare ourselves that the dhimmis are going to push this through w/ raw political muscle.
Then the question is; what's next?
What do we do to save our republic?
I'm not speaking of flowery rhetoric, I'm not talking about open rebellion. I mean, seriously, what can we do?

My solution is that the republicans should come out with a pledge that states that they will do everything in their power legisatively to repeal and roll back this health care monstrosity. Any republican running for election who does not sign it, gets no support or endorsement from the Republican party. Allow Democrats to sign it also. Do this for the next two elections cycles (2010 and 2012) until this is repealed.
In 2010 when we hopefully get a legislative body we propose budgetary items to strangle and kill the funding for this monstrosity. In 2012, we have to get a pubbie president elected that will repeal this.

I listened to every bit the house committee hearing and the one thing I heard over and over again from the GOP Representatives was that “we all agree the health care needs to be fixed” but they were opposed to the Obamacare monstrosity. So in my view we vote out everybody regardless of party...

I agree with this sentiment. There are many things the federal government can do to fix healthcare. They can open it up to competition by allowing people to buy healthcare across state lines. They can cap tort settlements so that not as much defensive medicine is practiced. They can fix the flex spending accounts. Allow it to be rolled over to the next year and allow people to save up money there tax free to be spent on health care only. This way you could buy catostrophic health insurance only and pay for your own checkups and normal doctor visits.
All of these things would reform health care drastically and make it more free market based and lower the costs.

most of the reforms you suggest relate to getting governments (plural) out of the way.

Yes, exactly. And those are the things that the Republicans want to push when they talk about "fixing" health care. That is why it's not a bad thing when they talk about "fixing" health care. It's a good thing. It does need fixed. Too much government intervention and ambulance chasers running roughshod over the system.
