JERUSALEM Israel on Monday reopened a landmark synagogue in Jerusalem's walled Old City, saying it should symbolise religious tolerance, 62 years after the building was destroyed in fighting with Jordan.
In a video message because he was unable to attend personally, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the synagogue brought a message of coexistence.
"We permit believers of other faiths to conserve their places of worship. We proudly protect our heritage, while at the same time allowing others freedom of religion," he said.
But the rededication came against a backdrop of heightened political and religious tensions in the holy city, with thousands of police deployed after clashes with Palestinian demonstrators.

The Israelis rightfully deserve their Hurva Synagogue reopened in the Old City of Jerusalem.
The Palestinians - aka the House of Esau - cannot get any more outraged...
...it shows they are not natives of the Holy Land, but immigrant Arabs brought into the Holy Land when the British Army led by General Allenby captured the Holy Land in November 1917.

The only thing that Israelis COULD do that would NOT “anger” Palestinians — is die.

Whoa wait. The a-rabs destroyed a synagogue? NO WAY! That can't be possible at all! They are the most peaceful and tolerant people to have ever walked the earth after all. IT MUST HAVE BEEN A JEWISH PLOT TO BLOW UP THEIR OWN SYNAGOGUE.

It’s hard to believe that I live in an era when this is a headline at all.
Worse yet is that no government in the West dares to challenge the perpertually-outraged Palestinians to sit down and shut the $@$@# up.
In a just world those opposed to this synagogue reopening would be branded as rabid antisemite idiots, and then shunned and ignored.
To: Alas Babylon!
I thought the sequence laid out in the account was very telling.
Basically they are “outraged” that a synagogue that was destroyed in a war was being reopened. As if they were saying “How DARE you rebuild what we have destroyed!”.

Quite an intriguing building. A chapel on each floor as well as under the dome?

A picture is worth a thousand words...If you will notice, the Israeli’s have allowed a minaret to survive intact...it is attached and still allowed to call for prayers—by Israeli law, no religious building or symbol is allowed to be destroyed. I only pray the that the G-d of Abraham, Issac and Jacob remove the obcenities that exist on G-d’s Holy Mountain...
To: richardtavor
That minaret has got to be a nuisance to worshipers in the synagogue.

Just because the minaret cannot be destroyed doesn’t mean Israel has to allow it to be used...

What are the odds the minaret was there before 1967?

The century old picture in the book being held by the old guy, shows the minaret tower, unless I’ve mistaken it for something else.

" coexistence " ......
Not in the liberal, one world religion people's mind....
Have you ever seen those bumper stickers that have that word coexistence ? those liberals driving around with that bumper sticker ?
I wonder if they are " tolerant " with Israel reopening that historic synagogue that made the Arab Palestinians go apes ?

Ya know, that moon on the top of the minaret is probably connected to a lightning rod grounding system. What if the grounding system were sabotaged? :-)
