I agree about the own or rent question, but the phone number would allow them to clarify an answer without the expense of sending someone out and asking whether you stay some place else would guard against counting you twice.
I don’t give out my phone number except to someone I want a call from. Besides, we don’t have a land line. I doubt I’ll be the only one not answering that one.
As for their asking about staying elsewhere, that may be their purpose but I see it as an intrusion. I’m undecided at this point whether to answer or not (my answer would be ‘No’. But I don’t like giving stuff out that is unnecessary.
And why should we believe this will be anywhere near accurate a census? After all, there’s nothing about citizenship. They’re simply counting every residence that responds. And their question about Hispanic, Latino or Spanish insures both legal and illegal responders. But there will still be a wide disparity between reported and actual numbers, IMO.
TFB, I don't trust them and it's none of their business. Let them look it up.
