Japan started out making cheap crap we laughed at. Having the factories is 90% of the battle, the quality will come. As for us, how do you tool up what is non existant?

It is true. I have worked at a variety of manufacturing companies in the past. There is no way we could tool up from scratch in a hurry. America’s industrial might took decades to reach its zenith, and that was in an era of cheap energy and before EPA, OSHA, etc. etc. etc. hobbled us. A country cannot exist only on a service economy.
