WASHINGTON The House's chief Democratic headcounter said today he hadn't rounded up enough votes to pass President Barack Obama's health care overhaul heading into a make-or-break week, even as the White House's top political adviser said he was "absolutely confident" in its prospects.
The administration gave signs of retreating on demands that senators jettison special home-state deals sought by individual lawmakers that have angered the public.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs predicted House passage this week, before Obama travels to Asia, a trip he postponed to push for the bill.
"This is the week where we will have this important vote," Gibbs said. "I do think this is the climactic week for health care reform."

I hope this will be the week when they encounter the truth about climactic change.
This thing is like a traffic accident, where a person runs into a brick wall and not satisfied with having the fender bent , backs up and hits it again and again until the car is destroyed.
Legislation affecting ALL Americans is unique...most affects different groups differently...which is why whether we’re black, yellow, native American etc is so important to the Feds.
But this piece of work, the Dems will have to own.
If they even TRY passing this without a roll call vote...God help the American people...and their government.
There have been so many climactic moments since this was first put forward I don’t know if I can stand another. I do predict that if the Dems are unsuccesful this week this will not go away. This thing has the life of a zombie...
Yes, even if declared 'dead'; this 'bill' will keep walking. . .

"TRUST US"
Still confident? Do you think the democrats are preparing their version of “Night of the Long Knives”?
They are confident because they know they are going to cheat to get the Bill passed.
I am expecting Obama to declare the Congress and Senate ineffective, dissolve them, and appoint his czars as the new Congress.
Seriously.
