This really is a test for the Republican Party. They may not have the votes to stop this societal Hindenburg, but they should at least, figuratively speaking, die trying.
Something a bit more than sitting with clasped hands at the table on Sunday talk shows, or posting position papers on the Web. How about walking out of Congress in protest? Gathering each Republican member of Congress on the Capitol steps the day the tea partiers arrive, to make it more likely the media will cover it instead of their usual M.O. of ignoring it? Gathering around the copy of the U.S. Constitution under its glass case and stating flat out that Congress has NO authority to regulate health care, and ask how the American public should be expected to follow rules when Congress won't even follow their own?
This is no longer a "distinguished debate among statesmen". This is a naked, full-fanged power grab, and the manners of stately gentlemen won't affect it. Show us that you are angry too, Republicans!!!
I've got to get to bed. Hope I can sleep.
