Authorities have captured a second "JihadJane" -- a Colorado woman who allegedly got mixed up in an international plot to kill a Swedish cartoonist after converting to Islam and marrying a Muslim man in New York, according to a report.

Jamie Paulin-Ramirez, 31, was being questioned in Ireland along with six other people in the scheme to off Lars Vilks, who outraged many by depicting the prophet Mohammed as a dog in his drawings, the Wall Street Journal reported yesterday.

"I'm angry with her right now," said Paulin-Ramirez's mom, Christine Holcomb-Mott. "I'd like to just choke her. But I'm worried about her, too. I love my daughter."

I will bite that. As someone who worked in Ramat Gan and lived in Manhattan and Miami I guarantee I can tell tween an Ashkenazim Jew and an Arab or most Sephardi and an Arab...Yemeni Jews might be problematic.

It’s definitely a small percentage of college players (UT included) who make lasting, successful careers in the pros. I agree 100% with your statement about the value of a college degree over a couple of years in the NFL. Pretty good! I see that you are familiar with Marfa :) Btw, by using Marfa as an example I was not slighting the town. I lived in Midland for several years and one Saturday while reading the sports section I saw a picture that I wish I had saved. It was of a kid in his football uniform, all dirty from playing the first half of a game, marching in the band at halftime playing a big ole tuba. I always think of this photo as a reminder of small town Americana and how folks who live in these small towns have such great community spirit. I thought the photo depicted that spirit perfectly.

I don’t want to get in the middle of a good FR dispute, but I think Israel depends more on the answers to verbal interrogation than racial identity. Not to say that isn’t a factor, but looking for Arabs would miss a lot of potential terrorists, and political disruptors. As Jane demonstrates. We should have figured this out back in the shoe bomber days. But we haven’t, we focus on the shoes. I do think the Israeli’s are way ahead of us on this, even though Reid got through their security too.

We should start by passing a law that requires all muslims to wear a patch sewn onto their clothing that identifies them as muslim and forbid them to form relationships or do business with non-muslims, then maybe we could designate a specific suburb in each major city and only permit them to live there.... but we’ll have to find a final solution eventually.

Of course they do, that's why Arabs complain, but it goes way beyond being an Arab. But Arabs aren't stupid, and they know what we might be looking for informally, perhaps Arabs, as well as what we won't look for systematically, Arabs and Muslims. Which is why a woman passes through security with a headcovering and I take my cowboy hat off. Yes, Arab, and Muslim, men below the age of 40 are a serious risk, and should be looked at. Including American citizens, which opens an entire new can of worms. But I fear our enemies are beyond that. They know what we might be looking for, and more important what we willfully ignore. We haven't even begun to figure this out. Hopefully we won't pay a price.

What’s wrong with defending ourselves from an enemy that is out to kill us by enacting laws that allow us to readily identify who our enemy is and where they are located?

Furthermore, if the cohort of enemy combatants are in fact the enemy’s civilian population (which in the war on terrorism that is exactly who the enemy is) does that not make the enemy’s civilian population a valid military target? In fact the PRIMARY target?

You have to admit we live in la la land of political correctness over this war (and anything else) where offending any sort of minority trumps the real goal of victory.

We refuse to label homegrown terrs what they are.

We refuse to acknowledge the tacit approval Hamas, Taliban, And Bin Laden etc have in many in the Islamic community worldwide.

We now have activist lawyers who support the goals of the terrorists in our DOJ accessing sensitive information all approved by Holder and Obama.

In World War 2, our bombing campaigns did not distinguish between soldiers and the civilians who supplied the soldiers. We drifted away from that in Vietnam and afterward. If it comes to an existential fight, we will go back to that doctrine.

I agree with you that when it comes to a fight for survival we can and do justify to ourselves dropping the distinction between military and civilian targets, as we did in WW2.

If we acknowledge that and give ourselves permission to kill civilians should we condemn ourselves for it as we condemn our enemies for employing the very same tactics?

Isn’t it hypocritical to say it’s ‘justified’ when we kill civilians, but it’s ‘terrorism’ when our enemy does the same?

Historically, there have been two types of war: "civilized" war, played for limited objectives and according to rules designed to limit damage to civilians, and "total" war, where it's a war for continued existence, and the rules go out the window.

The other side has played by the rules of total war, while demanding that we play by the rules of civilized war. I would not mind at all if we gave them a taste of total war.

Basicly we agree. I think profiling is a necessity, probably best done verbally, but by well trained TSA nincompoops. The US isn’t Israel either in terms of the threat, for now, or the number of passengers or airports. IMO demographically the threat isn’t as much racial as religious. We’re not going to religion, and profiling for Arabs will likely target plenty of Sephardic Jews, Greeks, Italians, you get the idea. And miss what imo is the greatest threat, homegrown converts. If by Arabs you mean passengers traveling on a passport from an Arab country, they should merit attention if they’re blue eyed and blond haired. For the reasons you mention, the liklihood of demographic profiling is zero, but profiling conversationally, not just by TSA but at the ticket counter makes complete sense. And demographics is a clear part of that.
