WASHINGTON – House Democratic leaders Thursday abandoned a long struggle to strike a compromise on abortion in their ranks, gambling that they can secure the support for President Barack Obama's sweeping health care legislation with showdown votes looming as early as next week.

In doing so, they are all but counting out a small but potentially decisive group whose views on abortion coverage have become the principal hang-up for Democrats fighting to achieve the biggest change in American health care in generations.

President Obama's opening pitch for his health care plan was a promise to save American consumers money. A year later, they're still not buying it.

A complicated and shifting White House message strategy, an intense, election-year atmosphere of public distrust, and conflicting claims about savings have undermined Obama's efforts to win support for the plan.

Democrats Still Lack Votes to Pass Their Health Care Bill

Top Democrats say they are resolving disputes over President Barack Obama's health overhaul plan, but they face decisions on subsidizing coverage and are still hunting votes to push the vast package through Congress.

House Democrats were meeting again Friday to discuss the still-evolving plan. Leaders are trying to soothe lawmakers worried about the price they might pay in November's congressional elections for supporting it.

When friends fall into a spiral of self-destructive behavior, you have to try to break their delusions and set them on the right path. That’s what Patrick Caddell and Douglas Schoen are trying to do for President Obama and the Democratic Congress. The longtime pollsters warn in a Washington Post op-ed that if they don’t stop their “march of folly” on health care, Democrats face an “electoral rout in November”:

Obama's Latest Healthcare Lie- Its Designed to Give the People Control Over Health Care

As part of his continual campaign to sell the unpopular Obamacare proposal to the American People, President Obama visited a school on Wednesday to give (what was promised to be) his final argument on the Progressive version of reforming health care:

..... So whatever state regulations were in place, we’d get rid of those and so insurance companies could basically find a state that had the worst regulations and then from there sell insurance everywhere. And that somehow that was going to be helpful to you. All this would do would give insurance companies more leeway to raise premiums and deny care. So I don’t believe we should give either the government or the insurance companies more control over health care in America. I want to give you more control over health care in America.

San José, Costa Rica – Conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh said this week he’d go to Costa Rica for medical treatment if Congress passes proposed reforms to the US healthcare system.

That might sound like an unusual choice, since this is a country with one of the longest standing socialized healthcare systems on the planet. Everyone here (including resident foreigners), are required to pay into the government-run health system, whether they use it or not.

But Limbaugh’s choice may also serve to advertise what many Americans traveling here for medical treatment already know: Costa Rica is a fabulous place for medical tourism.

All 1,018 pages of the Democrats' health care bill can be inspected here. The bill includes racial preferences. Under the Democrats' health care bill, if a medical school wants to increase its chances of receiving many different kinds of grants and contracts from the federal government, it should have a demonstrated record of training individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups. This is because the Democrats' health care bill requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to give preference to the entities that have demonstrated such a record in the awarding of these contracts to medical schools and other institutions.

Health Reform: So it's come down to this — desperate Democratic leaders strong-arming members on the worst bill ever before they go home to explain to constituents why they decided to commit political suicide.

We've said just about all we've had to say on this issue — actually dating back to 1993-94, when we wrote nearly 100 editorials in opposition to HillaryCare. Since January of last year, we've weighed in 150 more times against the latest version of socialized medicine.

But to review, here are just 15 reasons why a government takeover of the finest medical system in the world makes no sense at all:

In a perfect case study of how dramatic Washington can get on a Friday afternoon, attention on health care appears to have shifted from when the final vote will be (next week?) to the possibility of a new parliamentary procedure to greenlight the bill. At issue is what’s being dubbed the “Slaughter solution,” which, in a roundabout way, would let the House pass the Senate bill without actually voting on it.

The National Republican Congressional Committee has published a target list on health care. In addition to continuing to contact the five Tennessee Democrat Congressmen, you can go http://www.votervoice.net/link/clickthrough/ext/94697.aspx to contact some of these targets. Much of the talk following Obama’s announcement has focused on how to defeat this second bill through reconciliation, but that is misleading because the first step to defeating Obamacare is not by concentrating on defeating the “fixer” bill but by defeating the Senate bill in the House when it goes to the floor for an up-or-down vote on Thursday, March 18th.

Why no one reports that Senator Blanche Lincoln’s physician husband is making “designer” babies for cash and he “guarantees” a baby is beyond me! Also, Arkansas is one of the most lenient states for surrogate motherhood! Connect the dots... follow the money! Google Dr. Steven Lincoln! He practices in VA! Virginia has three Senators!
I’m sure he isn’t a Medicare/Medicaid provider either!
