It's astounding to behold, it really is.

What is astounding is that some people just don't know how to do math. $63K represents only a few thousand copies, which does not place a book anywhere near the best seller list. And also, the reason Palin's copies didn't register the dagger is that she purchased them directly from the publisher rather than through a book store where they are counted as scanned sales.

In the case of Romney's book, someone is buying bulk from the book stores. If this was Romney this would have to be a deliberate attempt to increase the sales figures, because I am sure he would know that buying them directly from the publisher sans the royalty like Palin did would be much cheaper. Don't cha think?

Otherwise, someone is just trying to corner the market on resales of this hot item.

10,000 of them went here:

http://mittromneycentral.com/2009/12/13/romney-book-event-expects-10000-attendees/

“The Hinckley Institute of Politics (University of Utah) is hosting a book signing and lecture to discuss Mitt Romney’s new book No Apology: The Case for America’s Greatness, which is set to be released on March 2, 2010.”

“The event will take place at the Salt Palace on March 13 (the day after Romney’s birthday). The event [hopes to have] 10,000 attendees,ALL OF WHOM WILL RECEIVE A SIGNED COPY OF THE NEW BOOK. Tickets will go on sale on Thursday (Dec.17) at 10:00 AM, evidently through a new website to be launched at that time: MittRomneyUtah.com. Pricing is not yet known. We will update when we know more.”

Sarah signed her books and used them as a premium for people who donated a certain amount of money to her PAC.

The big question that still needs to be answered is this one.

What constitutes this phrase from the NYT exactly? How many bookstores and in what numbers. Until we know that, we’re all just blowing smoke, like most threads.

“A dagger (†) indicates that some bookstores report receiving bulk orders.”
