The problem is indeed much deeper than cited in even this essay. One could start with Julian Jaynes - The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind, and follow up through a whole bunch of classics. There is a tragic split in the human mind between those who succumb to the symbolism of verbalism, and those who can actually visualize, turnabout, and parse concepts. Whether or not that is genetically determined or can be taught can be debated ad infinitum. One would hope the latter, and certainly to some degree.
It is way way way beyond Ego. And in fact contemporary education in the US is totally drowned in the sewage of ego, self esteem, and verbal immersion. Indeed Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi are paramount examples of human captives of Ego and Verbalism. And youth is subjected to that.
How obvious is that when Shroedinger or Von Braun or Jefferson, or Yeats, can construct wave equations, rocket design, constitutional organization, and compositional theatre?
We are in the Dark Ages, and it is in fact the Left which has led us there.
