I heard on the radio from a Car and Driver Tech that when the guy said that the pedal pulled away from his foot that there is no valid explanation for that since there is no mechanical linkage in that car to the accelator pedal since cruise control does not do that anymore.

As soon as I heard that, I figured it was a hoax.

Yes, that would require a throttle cable, which the Prius does not have.
