A Washington Post report about U.S. Rep. Patrick J. Kennedys decision to retire quotes the Rhode Island congressman as saying he is not leaving for good what the Post calls the family business.
I consider it taking a sabbatical, Kennedy told Post reporter Philip Rucker. Ruckers story, posted Thursday afternoon on www.WashingtonPost.com, said Kennedy will transfer his roughly $500,000 in campaign funds to an interest-bearing account, which he says he might tap if he chooses to run for the Senate some day.
Kennedy spokesman Adam Brand suggested in an e-mail exchange with the Providence Journal that, while Kennedys campaign fund currently holds about $500,000, the war chest will diminish even though the congressman is not running for reelection this year.
We know there are going to be continuing expenses, costs incurred while preparing the committee for next year, and federal campaign regulations to follow, Brand said. Once all of that is taken care of, the congressman will decide what to do with the remaining campaign funds. Brand did not give an estimate of what Kennedy can expect to retain in his fund when he leaves Congress.
As for Kennedys discussion of the possibility of an eventual Senate run, Brand said, The congressman is committed to his current job and is looking forward to the next phase of his career and has no plans to run for elected office. Rhode Island has two fantastic senators and the congressman looks forward to supporting both of them in elections to come.
I pity the poor doofus. He’s stupid; knows he’s stupid; knows everyone makes fun or his stupidity. Stuck with the “Kennedy Legacy” which is nothing to brag about.
I have a suggestion for the $500,000 war chest!
Donate it to the Veterans of Foreign WARS!
Put your money where your mouth is Patches - or no sabbatical for you!
...after that scream-fest the other day I would HOPE his departure is PERMANENT!
I know it may be legal but morally should money given to a candidate for an election be held over for another election? Maybe it should be TAXED at or given to a legitimate charity.
“What a baby.”
If it means he will not be voting, thank goodness.
P.S. again.
If he is taking a sabbatical, I suppose we tax payers will still be paying his salary.
It might be worth it though as long as he stays gone.
Let’s see.......the mental patient or Brown???????
Actually, he’d be an improvement over Kerry.
“Sabbatical”..is that what the Kennedy’s call a multi-year drinking binge now?
The family business is JPK Properties at 300 Madison Avennue NY NY. This is the front that manages the Arctic Royalty Limited Partnership. The tax shelter comprising of Mokeen Oil and KenOil. That’s right. The Kennedys own TWO oil companies. Why don’t they use their own instead of making Hugo Chavez a hero.
Hey that is a photo of Eisenhower Medical Center. I live in Palm Desert, and we do not want Patches here, either as a Betty Ford patient or a vacationer. Bad enough we have Boxer.
Bootlegging, murder what? inquiring minds want to know.
and now,, it’s time for another episode.. Of “Dr. Drew Goes to Wereshurstoned DC”
Blow into the bag, Sir, not barf.
Kennedy aides revealed that the Congressman will be continuing the hunt for his biological father, known to be the bartender of local watering hole, The Drunken Leprechaun.
Go take a long drive off a short pier.
Kennedy! Goodbye, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, GET LOST! Don’t come back.
I guess his father has just taken a “sabbatical” from life.
ha, after listening to his screed the other day on Talk Radio, he should call this a mental health sabbatical. in a padded room.
