WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama plans to donate the $1.4 million from his Nobel Peace Prize to helping students, veterans' families and survivors of Haiti's earthquake, among others, drawing attention to organizations he said "do extraordinary work."
Obama is giving a total of $750,000 to six groups that help kids go to college. Fisher House, which provides housing for families with loved ones at Veterans Administration hospitals, will receive $250,000, the White House said Thursday. And the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund, for which two former presidents are raising money to rebuild earthquake-ravaged Haiti, will receive $200,000.
"These organizations do extraordinary work in the United States and abroad helping students, veterans and countless others in need," Obama said in a statement. "I'm proud to support their work."
Obama was chosen for the Nobel award more for his aspirations and approach than his accomplishments thus far. The Nobel committee honored him for changing the tenor of international politics and for pursuing goals Obama says will require worldwide effort, such as nuclear disarmament and reversing global warming.

Vice President Cheney gives away a third of his earned income to Charity every year. He gave $8,000,000 to Charity when he received his Deferred Compensation from Haliburton.
President Bush gives 25% of his income to Charity every year.
Bill Clinton gave his used underwear to Charity. Then Vice President Al Gore gave $400 to Charity. Before becoming President, Obama gave only 2% of his earnings to Charity.
Why shouldn’t doofus give it away? American taxpayers are providing him and his (at least) first generation descendants with worry free lives forever, even the Queen of England, and tin pot dictators in his dear native land don’t get such a sweet deal. He won’t have to lay eyes on another dollar bill or even a credit card for the rest of his miserable life. Then come the book deals for books he’ll “author” and never read, lecture fees, did I forget anything?

He is selling the meaningless Nobel prize he got for doing nothing. Giving the proceeds to the Haitian’s is the least he can do. He had done nothing to earn it until selling it.
How about giving something to the Society for the Proper Use of Apostropohes?

Given that the prize was awarded to Barack Obama as an individual prize and not to whoever is in the Office of the President of the US, he should have reimbursed the government for the cost of taking him on a private trip to Oslo same as he would if it were a Presidential vacation. Did he?
Shouldn’t he have payed at least $600K in income tax? Or doesn’t that apply to him?
At least Bill Gates earned his money so it’s his to spend.
