Her office was notified of *concerns* that Massa, married man, was living with four other unmarried men, house or apartment, condo, I don't know that detail, but he had his staff living with him in DC. This is the October stuff, the rest just accumulated.

NO, it was Mark Foley, creepy intern guy. He resigned, but the democrats pushed for an investigation into when the leadership knew of the allegations, and how they handled it.
Just like the REpublicans here, the democrats then made a big deal out of the possibility that interns were at risk from Foley because the leadership didn’t start the investigation.
The only difference so far is that Foley appears to have been innocent of the charges about coming on to interns while they were employed.
Anybody care to give a recap of this story? It’s so bizarre and dynamic; have no idea what is going on anymore.
2. Obama’s people get a hold of this info and attempt to blackmail Massa with it to change his vote.
3. Massa calls their bluff.
4. Obama’s people weren’t bluffing. They use it to force out Massa.

Every Democrat in congress realizes they too have something they could be blackmailed with (I’m not saying they are all crooks; it’s been said every tax return has an error, that doesn’t mean everyone cheats on their taxes, it means that tax code is so complex everyone screws it up at least a little).
6. The Democrats in congress realize they could be next, so they are starting to fight back.
This was a pure Chicago/Alinsky power move by Obama, and I think it will backfire on him. This kind of stuff only works when you can do it behind the scenes (or should I say, under the cover of darkness). On a national stage, with its intense spotlight, these Alinsky ploys unravel.
That’s what the GOP is doing; shining a light on Obama’s Alinsky tactics.
Sorry again, you wrote Tom Foley and it was my recollection that the House did do something as regards him after he was defeated. I stand corrected again.

House Republican Leader John Boehner Thursday offered a privileged resolution ordering the House ethics committee to investigate what members of the House leadership (as well as their staff) knew about allegations against former Democratic Rep. Eric Massa before the formal ethics inquiry into Massa's behavior began.
The resolution cited a statement by House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer's office indicating Hoyer was made aware of allegations of misconduct in February and questions when and what House speaker Nancy Pelosi knew about them. It ordered the ethics committee to investigate and return a report by June 30th.
But Boehner's attempt was rebuffed Thursday afternoon when the House voted overwhelmingly to instead allow the ethics committee to determine its next move. The 402-1 vote means there may or may not be further inquiry into the Massa affair. The initial House ethics inquiry into Massa was formally ended Wednesday.
I guess Boehner was the 1, huh?
This is truly remarkable. Anyone who thinks dems are not worried as HELL about November only has to look at THIS unbelievable vote!

The republicans didn’t do that. The Democrats just said they did (I think it was very wishful thinking), but the repubs. never bit that carrot. It was part of a dem strategy that failed. Thank goodness. (Sorry if I didn’t make it clear.)

No, I’m sorry this time. I didn’t mean “no, you are wrong”, I meant “no, it wasn’t Tom Foley.” I should have made it clear that I was the one who made the mistake, not you. I was intent on correcting my mistake, but didn’t do it in an orderly manner.

Hard to say what was “rebuffed”. There were two roll call votes on the issue, but I can’t tell what either were because there is no text for it in Thomas.gov yet.
The first vote was 404-2, the 2nd 402-1. On the first vote, the two Noes were Rohrbacker and Johnson(Ill).
On the 2nd vote, the one Noe was Fattah.
Boehner voted yes for both. Maybe he presented his bill, and was offered support of the democrats for a substitute, and he decided that was the way to go.
There is no indication that his version got voted down, so maybe the 1st vote was to substitute a measure.
Once they get the text up in the database, we will know more.
I presume that if the ethics committee doesn’t start an investigation, he can bring his motion to force one back to the floor — which would bring the issue back out in front. Or he could do so anytime if he thinks they are dragging their heels.
All this has an interesting analogy to an event in WWII.
Gen. Rommel had been an entusiastic supporter of a certain charismatic leader that had became head of the German government. Rommel had actually made comments early in the war that he felt this leader was a military genius. Rommel didn’t just look up to this person, he had a quai-messianic view of this person.
In the middle of the N. Africa campaign, Rommel notified this leader that he needed to pull his troops back and attempt a different strategy. Rommel’s request was denied; instead he was told to push forward using the current strategy. Rommel knew this would be a disaster for his troops and told the charismatic leader this. The orders stood.
Rommel never again had a good word to say about the charismatic leader. As time went on he noticed more and more things he didn’t like about this leader.
Toward the end of the war, Rommel was involved in a plot to assasinate the charismatic leader who earlier in the war he had held in such high regard.
I believe the Democrats in congress are having their Rommel moment now.
