He quoted his political hero, US Civil War-era president Abraham Lincoln, as saying that the role of government was to do what needed to be done but could not be done by citizens themselves without help.
“That pretty much sums up my attitude,” Obama said.

That statement bothers me.
I never heard Abraham Lincoln say that!
Hey Bozo! Lincoln would have declared you an enemy of the Republic and then declared war on you.
The fact it is a lie bothers me.
Lincoln represented the Republican position.
ObamaCare represents the 20th century socialistic view of Govt - people cannot do it themselves so Govt will take over.
Remember, to Obama the Constitution is a “charter of negative liberties.” It does not state what the government can do for you on your own behalf. That pretty well sums up his thoughts on the role of government.
He thinks that government ought to have free reign to do for (to) you everything they think needs getting done; like (re-)educating you, taking your means of self-defense, taking over your means of production, making sure you’re consuming properly. You know, the little things. He thinks that government needs to be an indispensable part of your daily life, that which provides all things.
