I lived there (Belmont Shore, Long Beach) in the 60's. Beach Boys were popular and Reagan defeated Brown and became Governor.
It was a great place then. I haven't been there since 1967. It appears I would not recognize it any more.

My wife's family still lives there and it is still a lovely state, if you get far enough away from the third world enclaves in the Los Angeles and the Bay areas.

The best solution would be to divide it into at least three states: A coastal liberal enclave stretching from the beaches of Orange County to Marin County and far enough east to cover left-wing towns like Anaheim, East LA and Sacramento, then a Northern California with a capital in, say, Fresno, and a Southern California with a capital in, say, Palm Springs.

That way, two of the three California states could right their sinking ship of state.

Don’t ever go back. You left at the exact right moment. CA was the envy of the entire world. Truly a golden state.
