Minorities make up nearly half the children born in the U.S., part of a historic trend in which minorities are expected to become the U.S. majority over the next 40 years.

In fact, demographers say this year could be the "tipping point" when the number of babies born to minorities outnumbers that of babies born to whites.

Nothing the least bit wrong with family oriented women being teachers. In fact, it’s nearly perfect. It’s a nurturing child oriented profession. They generally only work when kids are at school. Almost never a time their kids need anyone else to care for them because she is at work. She can even stop teaching a few years to raise a young-un to school age, then come right back into teaching. Last, no matter where a husbands job takes her, there a school she can usually find a job in if she wants. Teaching is a perfect idea for decent woman who wants a family.

The problem is the women flooding in as lawyers, doctors, fighter pilots, wall street bankers, business excutives, etc.
Those jobs seriously impair the homefront.

I was a single mom with three children and no education struggling to feed and house us all.

It is always important to have an education so that you can take care of your family, whether you are a woman or a man. My mother was a great example for me, not because she got an education, but because she did not and relied on my father for everything. Now she relies on me for everything. I am honored to do so, but have taught my children not to depend to heavily on anyone but God and themselves.

I have to disagree on one thing - most of the reason from what I see that minorities have more kids isn’t because of a love of family so much as due to not knowing how to open a condom wrapper. For some, sure but the alarming number of single mothers that I see (of all races) completely negates what you’ve said.

How many children have you had? How many would you have had if you made your career having children instead of job that took the place of a man? Think about it.

So few children are being made in Russia, Japan, and Italy that they are starting to pay couples to have children. Who is going to stay home and take care of them? If you want your children to grow up halfway decent one parent needs to stay home. The best behaved children I have ever met are those with at least one parent staying home full-time.

I think you missed my point. Even without an education, I managed to raise my children - successfully. I remarried between my #3 child and my #4. Statistically we were all doomed. But instead we all succeeded and very well, thank you.

It is about values and will - not necessarily about education or status.

2 children (in wedlock, thanks for asking) a girl first then a boy. Honor students, athletes, musicians (strings), daughter in top 5% of her high school class. Husband served 20+ years in military helped me get my degree in nursing. I’m legit....how bout you?

I think it is important for girls and women to have an education but at some point they have to choose one of two paths for a career - motherhood or a full-time job in the working world.

If white women are all out working then where are all the white children going come from? Thin air?

I apologize if I offended you. I’m not downing you for not having an education. I totally respect the love and sacrifices that mothers make for their children, but I am teaching my children that it is easier to make it in society if you have an education than if you do not.

Maybe you should actually read the article. "The numbers are growing because immigration to the U.S. has boosted the number of Hispanic women in their prime childbearing years. Minorities made up 48 percent of U.S. children born in 2008, the latest census estimates available, compared to 37 percent in 1990.

Johnson explained there are now more Hispanic women of prime childbearing age who tend to have more children than women of other races. More white women are waiting until they are older to have children, but it is not yet known whether that will have a noticeable effect on the current trend of increasing minority newborns.

Illegal immigration, not American education and lifestyle, is the cause of these statistics. Educate yourself before you post more idiotic, emotional baloney.
