The 870 is a great shotgun, but I wouldn't want to go into combat with one unless it was all I could get my hands on.
How come? Are you more partial to auto-loaders?
I'm in the market for a good shotgun so just wondering. I want something for all around purposes, 3-gun competitions, home defense, SHTF.

I'm in the market for a good shotgun so just wondering. For a good inexpensive 'general purpose' shotgun I'd recommend the Mossberg 500A series. IMO they're a better choice than the 870 for the purposes you mentioned.
