I thought it was useful to post this, after all the discussion on previous threads about "why didn't he ....?"

Do you know whether anybody checked this guy out? Is it possible that he is a union member, making another bad news of Toyota to bring it down to its knees? Of course, to force Toyota to be unionized. Perfect timing, isn’t it?

Some people are not to good under stress. Your brakes can dissipate more power than your engine can put out. You should be able to lay on the breaks and stop. Disc brakes should have no problem. A truck going down hill loaded would have a problem. Just find a guard rail and turn into is to grind off the side of the vehicle to stop.

Isn't it odd how this happens right now, just as Toyota is dealing with their sticky accelerator problems?

I hope the police have impounded the Prius and are looking it over. The story, the driver's actions and the timing of the story are way too suspicious.

I’ve gotta say something even if it’s not popular, BUT this story is too damn fishy. On the cell while trying to control the car?? What’s wrong with this pic? HOW did he dial 911 while he had both hands on the steering wheel or one hand on the wheel and the other one trying to unstuck the pedal and sobbing at the same time? Just something doesn’t jive here!! And that’s my two cents worth! :)

Even on cars with the most powerful engines the brakes are able to easily stop the car when full engine power is applied. Perhaps the driver was purposely pressing both pedals to grind the brakes but keep the car moving. I hope these things have a black box that can tell if this is what happened.

This is BS. He wants to make money suing Toyota. I am sure he will be part of a class action lawsuit. Just watch.

I bet they called the TV media and CNN before he started his adventure. This is so fake.

From the “Toyota Dealer” thread;
“”There is a list of twenty manufacturers on these recall lists, and Toyota is number 17,” he said. “If we’re having hearings on number 17, what are they doing about numbers 1 through 16?”

"He was very emotional, you could tell on the line he was panicked," Parks told reporters outside the CHP's El Cajon office. "I could only imagine being in his shoes and being that stressed stupid."

Sikes told reporters he didn't go into neutral because he worried the car would flip.

Precession? Not likely. Probably didn't even know what it meant.

Well, that's got to be a lie. But he sounded so genuinely terrified on the 911 recording. Makes you wonder how much of this has been a hoax all along.

I remain stupified by such drivers’ failing to shut-off the ignition, put the car in neutral, etc. How far we’ve fallen in basic science ignorance and common sense.

I had to laugh at this whole thing. First this idiot owns a Prius, the mark of the stupid IMO. Then this, with a “runaway” hitting 90-95 mph, really points out how deceptive this hybrid design. This guy can place a 911 call, but can’t put the car in neutral when requested by the 911 operator because he said he was too busy controlling the car. Yea, this whole thing smells. He wasn’t telling the 911 operator he was afraid the car would flip at the time, just after the fact. Fellow Freepers, this is the quality of drivers that share your highways.

Back in 1990, I bought a car, out the door TT&L $5,000, that got 50 mpg city and 65 mpg highway. The massive 1 liter, fuel injected power plant could accelerate that monster to past 90 on a flat stretch of highway. It wasn’t a hybrid and it gave me 13 years of service and 150,000 miles with regular maintenance, tires, brakes and battery. No other fixes were needed. Prius: what a con.

I dunno...

How much would it cost the UAW to hire an out of work Hollywood stuntman to help GM get more biz? (And I call the birthers crazy.)

Wait a second, he’s driving in CA and doesn’t have bluetooth? I thought it was illegal to use a cell while driving in CA. Wouldn’t every driver have a hands free device? Especially someone liberal enough to be driving a Prius.
