It completely depends on the services that are being provided. Tax issues cannot be decided upon justly prior to determining what services are provided. Example: It used to be that fire protection was provide by an insurance company (Ben Franklin's idea). A property tax seems reasonable for fire protection since that is what is protected.

Using property tax to fund education? This makes no sense: why should I support public education when I will use it, ever?
