(Missouri Rep.) Cleaver: Obama doesn't have the votes to pass health care reform (201 out of 216)
Kansas City Star ^ | March 8, 2010 | Steve Kraske

Posted on 03/08/2010 1:45:10 PM PST by Second Amendment First

Congressman Emanuel Cleaver said today on KCUR's "Up to Date" that President Barack Obama doesn't have the votes to pass health care reform in the U.S. House.

"We're not at 217," Cleaver said, referring to the number needed to pass the bill.

Later, the three-term Democrat from Kansas City said the passage number could be 216 given vacancies in the House.

The count today, Cleaver said, is about 201 health care supporters.

That number, he added, could fluctuate significantly as a final vote nears.

Listen to the show, that also featured Kansas Congressman Dennis Moore, here.

if you are a wavering Dem and you take Rahm’s deal, be forewarned that Republicans will...

- expose you
- publicly humiliate you
- cut the funding and repeal whatever goodies you
were promised ten minutes after we become the majority

Good, detailed analysis of the players in the House...

Update, 12:15 PM 3/8: Moved Dan Lipinski (IL-3) to the category of Democrats who voted yea in November who have now explicitly said something negative about the current legislation. The Weekly Standard reports:

Asked if the congressman is "open to voting for a health care bill that lacks the Stupak amendment," Lipinski's spokesman Nathaniel Zimmer replied in an email to THE WEEKLY STANDARD:

"No. Congressman Lipinski will not vote for a health care bill that provides federal funding for abortion."

Lipinski was included on my list of potential Stupak Democrats. Now that he has "outed" himself as such, he goes into the list of Democratic supporters from November who are now wavering.

Hot damn.

This could be the best of all scenarios ... wherein the Democrats reveal themselves as totalitarian, oblivious to the concerns/ demands of their constitutents, free spending, incompetent, and incapable of governing in one fell swoop — with the added bonus of us not having to live with the resulting legislation.

But not in the shower.

According to Massa, Emanuel, in the nude, confronted him in the congressional gym showers.

Kansas City is not the same place now as it was in Truman's time. The Pendergast machine and powerful unions have been replaced by racial identity politics and government unions.

Rev. Cleaver is a genial guy (I had some playful banter with him at a freep about a decade ago when Clinton was in town), but is totally co-opted by the CBC and the dem machine. I do believe his numbers he states here.

There are a lot of true-believer leftists in congress, and there are a lot of spineless, out-of-touch hacks that bend to the will of Queen “let them eat cake” Pelosi.

This *could* be a big developing story with major implications for the healthcare vote. Massa is being interviewed by Beck tomorrow. Hopefully this thing gets a lot of legs. The MSM is ignoring it.....for now.

Cleaver’s numbers are probably right on target - but the leadership is going to be LIVID that he went public with this reality - they are counting on the MSM to create momentum for BOcare.

Keep calling. The RATS are trying to wear us down.

They don’t have the votes to pass which bill? The Senate Bill? If it is the Senate Bill then reconciliation is moot (so far)

TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:

http://economicspolitics.blogspot.com/2009/05/tricare-for-life-is-obama-trying-to.html

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollee’s cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.) http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/99xx/doc9925/12-18-HealthOptions.pdf

Congress plans to block Tricare fee increases

http://www.navytimes.com/news/2009/10/military_tricarefees_blocked_100709w/

By Rick Maze - Staff writer, Oct 7, 2009

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.

The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.

“President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees” in fiscal 2010, Matz said. “We took them at their word, and I can’t believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward,” he added.

My math says San Fran Nan has 198 votes for Obamacare with another 13 Progressives ready to bolt just to make a fuss about the public option.

Today, Dodd became the 37th Senator to support a public option.

It’s dead Jim.

If this health care socialization can be delayed ‘til past the elections and massive rats lose, I would not be shocked to see them pass it in Dec - just for spite - as they are walking out the door.

Missouri is similar to my native state of Pennsylvania, liberal city on each end, state university in the middle, outweighing what most of the rest of the state wants.

I heard the widder Carnahan on the radio this morning, touting her new book. First I've heard her since she got tossed out of her dead husbands senate seat.

Let’s hope it fluctuates in the downward direction.

We can certainly hope, but I am sure man-child is out spreading cash and bribes on his latest national Obamacare tour (mostly union members are in attendance).
