Obama: Greedy health insurers show need for reform (200 Tea Partiers Counter!)

President Obama began an important political week for his health-care legislation with a passionate argument for its urgency Monday at Arcadia University in Glenside, blasting the insurance industry for skyrocketing premiums, canceled coverage – and suffering Americans.

"We've been talking about this for a century . . .. If not now, when? If not us, who?" Obama said to 1,800 people crammed into the school's gym. "I don't know how health-care reform will play politically, but I know it's the right thing to do."

Obama said that Washington's preoccupation with the "sport of politics" is hindering solutions to problems with the health-care system, with rising costs and millions uninsured. Final legislation is being cobbled together now, with fiscal analysis by the Congressional Budget Office due this week, and Obama has said he wants an up-or-down vote in Congress by Mar. 18.

Before the president arrived, about 200 Tea Party opponents of the president held a rally outside the university gates.

Police tried to move the group, citing safety concerns, but relented after they were shouted down.

The Tea Partiers held signs saying, "Obamacare Sick Joke," "Hands Off My Health Care," and "No Socialized Medicine."

"We are very concerned that the federal government is poised to take over the health care industry," said Don Adams, treasurer of the Independence Hall Tea Party Association. "America is a free enterprise nation and we have always conducted out medical affairs privately."

A smaller group turned out to support the president, holding signs saying, "Yes, Yes to Health Care," and "Health Care Reform, Yes We Can."

These blatant lies are getting really old.

Yeah, doctor’s hacking off peoples feet with rusty razor blades, and then sending in a claim to the insurance company for re-imbursement. That only after numerous un-necessary tests have been run to demonstrate that there is no need to operate.

The insurance companies do not set the price of doctor’s visits, lab tests, or hospital stays.

They pay for those costs with the premiums they charge.

Evidently the most brilliant man since Einstein hasn’t figured that out yet.

This was reported on the Fox radio news broadcast as “a small number of protesters.”

I can only imagine that the CBS and ABC radio news broadcasts did not even mention the word “protester.”

We don’t need healthcare reform, we need politician reform.

He’s right about this being a century long effort. The leftist progressives have had the government take over of health care as a primary cause for at least a century. They know that once that is accomplished the subjugation of the citizenry through regulatory tyranny is only a matter of time. Government dominance is the goal, first, last and always.

It is the relentless push to intrude government into the health care industry that has resulted in the distortions we see in that market. The leftists have spent decades slowly worming their way into this sector and it is now screwed up enough that they think it is ripe for the taking. And the thing is they are not far off on this. The GOP is being offered a golden opportunity if they are smart enough to seize it. They can roll back the rat majorities this November and in 2013, after a Republican is elected president and the party holds both houses of congress, they can put real reform in place including vital reforms for Medicare to prevent that bankruptcy from occurring. They blew their chance under Bush because Bush and too many in the congress are progressives and had no intention of rolling back government. If the GOP wins big this year and in 2012 they will have no excuse to not make a real effort to cut spending, cut taxes and roll back government influence. And if the GOP blows another chance then I would say that a third party will become a serious cause for consideration for the simple reason that there will be no where else to go for real reform.

Obama is taking on the greedy health insurers in order to pass a bill that will mandate that you buy health insurance from...

the greedy health insurers.

It was a good gathering - energetic, determined, and patriotic (and we pick up our trash and thank the local police . . . ). There really weren’t many pro-O folks out there. Most were probably inside the college walls.
