WASHINGTON, D.C.
U.S. President Barack Obama has selected Army Maj. Gen. Robert Harding to lead the Transportation Security Administration, officials said.
An administration official said Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano would announce Harding's nomination Monday, CNN reported.
"The TSA administrator is the most important unfilled post in the Obama administration," the official told CNN. "Mr. Harding has the experience and perspective to make a real difference in carrying out the mission of the agency. If there was ever a nominee that warranted expedited, but detailed, consideration in the Senate, this is it."
If confirmed by the Senate, Harding would be the TSA's first African-American administrator.
Harding was CEO of Harding Security Associates, a defense and intelligence government contractor he founded in 2003 and sold in 2009.
From 1996 to 2000, Harding was the Defense Intelligence Agency's director for operations and the Pentagon's senior human intelligence officer, CNN said. He also was director for intelligence for the Army's Southern Command.
Obama's first nominee for the post, Erroll Southers, a Los Angeles airport police department official, withdrew from consideration in January after lawmakers questioned his shifting explanation about disciplinary action taken against him years ago, CNN said. Also, Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., led Republican efforts to block Southers' nomination based on concerns that Southers would unionize airport screeners.
Whites need not apply?
Looks that way, doesn’t it.
Raise high the EEOC banner.
Don’t trust anyone obama picks for any position. Incompetance and corruption doesn’t discriminate on color.
So he contributed to the intelligence failures that resulted in 9/11? Great choice Obie.
HIs bio did not seem to show anything out of the ordinary. OTOH, not everyone can be a Storm'n Norman or Charg'n Charlie (Beckworth).
So, what’s this guy’s Communist Revolutionary credentials?
Mike
Adopting wait & see pose . . .
You might want to ping the list and see if any ex Army MI’s have a handle on this general?
He is DNA qualified for being a leader for diversity.
Article is not very clear, is this officer still on active duty or retired?
Maybe he can un-hose TSA’s personnel process. Took them weeks to run my credit check for a job there, during which time they asked for the 3rd time for a consent form to authorize the check. Called them back to see if they needed ANOTHER set of forms, and it was just then that they let me know I passed. My understanding is that it takes months to a year to complete their process.
Thanks, Bob.
Can I dare to ask the million (or is is trillion) dollar question: is he a muslim?
If they want someone with military experience, how about a veteran from CENTCOM? You know, the place full of the people that want to blow up our airplanes.
I so far out of the loop, I haven’t the foggiest idea of what you mean by “If they want someone with military experience, how about a veteran from CENTCOM? You know, the place full of the people that want to blow up our airplanes.”
I need a lingy translation re: “how about a veteran from CENTCOM? You know, the place full of the people that want to blow up our airplanes.”
Thanks
Dave
