I don't have any special insight either but I would guess that if Sarah Palin ever runs for national office, appearances like these will make for valuable IOU's to be called in.
What dya think Richard Nixon did between 1962 and 1968? What dya think Ronald Reagan did between 1976 and 1980?

McCain would have to support Palin if she was running, she stuck out her neck for him and if he didn’t do it or remain silent it wouldn’t reflect badly on Sarah per say but more on McCain, she would be the honorable person, he would now be the dishonorable one and since no matter what happens in this race in November McCain is on his last leg.

But if what we need is someone who is about principle and conviction rather than politics and power, then ... merits on the latter make for demerits on the former.
