GHAZNI PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Current members of the Ghazni Provincial Reconstruction Team introduced incoming PRT members to the Provincial Development Council at the Governor’s Compound Hall in Ghazni city, Afghanistan, Mar. 4.

The meeting, led by the Ghazni Deputy Governor, Alhaj Allahyar, was held to discuss the projects previously approved by the PDC and potential new projects.

“It has been an honor to work with each and every one of you and the people of Ghazni,” said U.S. Navy Cmdr. Wilson Marks, the current Ghazni PRT commander. “We will make sure that the incoming team knows the status of the projects and the things that we have been talking about for the last few months, so we can continue the good work here in Ghazni.”

Marks spoke to the council about current PRT projects and introduced the incoming PRT commander, U.S. Navy Cmdr. Philip Kapusta and his staff.

“This is the second PDC meeting I’ve been to, and I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen,” said Kapusta about the meeting.

After introductions with the new PRT members, the council broke into project discussions.

“Right now, there are approximately 31 ongoing projects that are being done by the PRT in the province,” said Marks.

Included in the discussion was the Ghazni-Gardez road project, which will connect Ghazni city in Ghazni Province to Gardez in Paktya Province.

“As you all know, the road is very important to Ghazni, because it will connect Ghazni Province, from Ghazni city all the way to Gardez,” said Marks. “They will be starting the road in both Ghazni and Gardez at the same time, and will meet in the middle, and hopefully we’ll have that complete by June or July of next year.”

The Chief of Staff of Administration for Ghazni province, Alhaj Mohammed Sahg, also highlighted the importance of the 2013 Center for Islamic Culture in Ghazni City.

The plan is to have a committee work with the ministries to plan for the event, focusing on quality projects, said Alhaj Mohammed Sahg.

Ghazni PRT members are ready to work with the council concerning the 2013 event.

“We must push the ministry to provide additional funding to Ghazni,” said Marks. “We all know 2013 will be an important event for Ghazni Province, and we look forward to developing that plan with you all, and executing it, so we can have a successful event.”

“We look forward to continuing the fine work of the PRT and helping the good people of Ghazni in the coming year,” said Kapusta.
