My idea is simpler & cheaper. And has the added advantage of having precedent (kind of).

NO ONE who A) collects any kind of govmnt assistance - welfare, food stamps, govmnt pension (with the exception of retired military) and/or B) does not pay federal taxes - gets to vote in national elections.

I'd apply the same rule at the local level.

Very good too but even more utopic that mine ..ahah..all these “poor” people - what a “discrimination” scream that would be!

If people don’t pay federal taxes, that should not disenfranchise them. They might be retirees who are invested in muni bonds (for example).

I’ve long thought that the disqualification of taking federal money for voting is a good idea. It harkens back to the Founders’ ideal that only property owners had the vote - and property owners in those days were the taxpayers, since we had no income taxes.
