Conservative icon U.S. Rep. Tom McClintock endorsed Steve Poizner for Governor today. Since I am at the CRA Convention, and am posting via my Blackberry, I will include an excerpt from Poizner's press release...
FROM THE RELEASE:
Tom McClintock, the conservative standard-bearer in California and champion of Republican principles, today endorsed Steve Poizner for Governor. In making his endorsement, Rep. McClintock called Steve Poizner the "only conservative candidate" in the race and the only real reformer running for governor.
"I trust Steve to restore Republican principles to California government," said Rep. McClintock. "Steve Poizner is the only conservative candidate in this race and is serious about implementing real reform in Sacramento. I am convinced that Meg Whitman has nothing to offer other than Arnold Schwarzenegger's third term. That is something California cannot afford."

Why Tom, why...
Wasn’t it Meg Whitman the one that said something to the effect that Van Jones is someone she had great respect for?
His Dad, Pat Brown must be so proud. We live in strange times. ;-)
LOL.. Stop IT! Yur killing me.. LOL
Wow, him and his wife do spread the dough around, huh?
Ping for later
Poizner wants the act suspended until four straight quarters of below 5.5 percent unemployment -- something that is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
Poizner attacked Whitman for praising ousted Green Jobs Czar Van Jones and for Whitman's charity foundation donating $300,000 to the Environmental Defense Fund, a group that helped write AB32 and supported the preservation of the endangered delta smelt at the expense of Central Valley farmers.
Poizner also asserted that he would confront California's welfare problem and illegal immigration problem by deploying the National Guard to the border if necessary. Poizner also criticized Whitman for endorsing liberal Democrat Barbara Boxer in her 2004 re-election campaign and for Whitman's not mentioning the word "conservative" or "Republican" in her television ads.
Re: “Dang, now Im really confused. I trust the Howard Jarvis group and Tom McClintock. Howard Jarvis is for Meg and Tom is for Poizner. ??? Whom do you believe?”

Believe TOM! A big fat NO to Meg Whitman!

It’s not unusual at all — individuals as well as corporations ‘spread the wealth around’ with contributions re elections. It comes with the territory. At least Poizner didn’t give it all to the Dems!
Is it true that Poizner donated to Al Fore’s presidential campaign.
POP QUIZ
The lesser of two evils is ________ _________
A: Still evil
Tom McClintock and the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association would have been better served to stay out of this race.
Unfortunately Steve’s wife is a democrat and it is she who donated to Al Gore’s campaign.
Please people, don’t be fooled by the fake Meg Whitman who says she was just “too busy” to even vote until 2005 or so. Further, she increased ebay’s bottom line by charging the sellers more money to sell. Is that who you want running California? Someone who will charge the little guy more?
They’re giving aid and comfort to the enemy. I have no more time for them whatsoever.
I heard Poizner on Glenn Beck. I’m w/Poizner.

HH: Now Steve Poizner, what about abortion? Are you a pro-choice guy?
SP: I am a pro-choice guy in one sense. I dont believe that California is going to outlaw abortions anytime soon. Now Im against abortions, and I want to work with people on all sides of this issue to drive the number of abortions down to zero. I do oppose late-term abortions completely. I have supported and continue to support parental notification. Those are just common sense issues here. But this states not ready to outlaw them tomorrow. Instead, we need much more aggressive education programs to get people to understand that abortions really are a bad thing.

From Really Right, a blog of Townhall.com, hosted by William on Friday, May 29, 2009:
I finally was able to hear Steve Poizner speak at our much delayed Reagan-Lincoln Dinner here in Sacramento County. I was most impressed by his presentation and understanding that its the spending stupid to lift a phrase from another political campaign.
He fielded a number of questions on a variety of issues. The person next to me was anxious to ask Poizner about his position on abortiona subject that many folks are passionate about. I suggested instead of asking him which labelprolife or prochoice—he wished to apply to himself that this person ask him specifics about issues that Poizner would likely face as governor. I suggested that he ask about taxpayer funding of abortion and conscientious objections by pharmacists and other healthcare providers to being forced to provide morning after pills and other such methods of abortion.
The person seated at my table got up after Poizner had completed his Q & A period and went looking for him. This person had stated previously that he would only vote for prolife candidates. He must have been successful with what he was told by Poizner because when he returned to the table, he was filling out an endorsement card.
I’m leaning that way myself. Once again we have terrible choices to choose from. I think I may as well throw my hat in the ring. Hell I could easily do a better job than these candidates.
Yeah... It must be nice to have so much to spend on liberal candidates. I guess there’s a reason I was surprised to learn that he’s a “Republican”.
So the bottom line is that the “conservative” candidate in the race is a donor to Algore and John F’en Kerry, and his opponent is Aaaahnold-in-drag.
I think I’ll vote for my dog.
Then why is his name on the donation?
