I’m just dismayed to see Sarah being tied in so closely now to show biz, pop culture and tabloid sensationalism

It’s too bad but we do need votes to win elections. Just appealing to conservatives and excluding all others won’t get her elected. Ronald Reagan won because he was popular as well as because people liked his ideas. They were open to his ideas because of his popularity.

Staying out of the tabloids is just not possible for Sarah. They will always find something to sensationalize or to make up about her.

Why are the liberals so frightened? They know that her popularity will open up new markets for conservative ideas among their primary constituency, women.

I’m doubtful she can develop gay support, but I could be wrong. One of the most beloved entertainers by gays was Judy Garland. It wasn’t a sexual thing, but rather an admiration of her talent, appearance, demeanor, dress, whatever. I don’t understand it but no doubt that connection existed. It’s possible that something similar could happen with Sarah.

As to her choices, they couldn’t have been better-
1. Resigning - allowed her to avoid bankruptcy and a failed last year and a half due to Alinsky inspired lawsuits. Allowed her to speak her mind on national issues. Allowed her to travel to support candidates, raise money, speak to a wide range of audiences.
2. Writing a book - Writing any book that sells over 2 million copies is a good decision. She made money that she will need in a national campaign. She exposed her side of the story.
3. The Book Tour - Excellent way of assessing the level of grass roots support, and learning about who her likely base of voters would be.
4. The Tonight Show - Conan/Leno are a gateway to the American people who are not “political junkies”. By keeping her appearances only borderline political, she allows people to get to know her as a person.
5. FoxNews - Allows her to give her political views and to showcase issues she supports.
6. Facebook - Great use of modern technology to communicate to supporters and to make policy statements.
7. Endorsements - NY23 had to do it to keep Scuzzi from getting into office and almost succeeded. McCain - Had to endorse. He took her form .01% name recognition to virtually 100% overnight. She campaigned across the country for his election as President. If she said that now he wasn’t fit to be even a senator, she would be seen as a hypocrite. She also has to campaign enthusiastically for him (at least once). On the flip side, an endorsement of his opponent who had Abramoff connections, would be against everything she has stood for since entering politics. Those are political reasons but I don’t think she would see it that way. She would see it as an issue of friendship and loyalty and many voters would see it that way also.
8- Alaska TV Show. We don’t yet know exactly what this is or how it will be received, but something in the vein of the Michael Palin TV series by Sarah about Alaska would be of interest to many.

If you are looking for someone to support, examine the record of their service. She has a record and it’s extensive. So do the other potential candidates. Don’t worry about which TV show she decides to appear on.

Have to disagree with you there. Judy Garland was a tragic figure enmeshed in drug abuse, alcoholism and mental breakdowns as well as glamour and escapism. That is what the closeted gays identified with at the time -- not a confident, outspoken, sincerely religious, heterosexual conservative image like Palin's.
