Many artists are very tortured people, and experimenting with gayness is just another symptom of dealing with their extreme sensitivity and inability to cope with the demands of heterosexuality, conventional morality, etc.
Freddie Mercury couldn't have seemed any gayer; yet in spite of his misadventures with men and with drag, he lived with a woman for 7 years, called her his "common-law wife" and left the bulk of his estate to her, pissing off his late-in-life gay lover.
It's not that I approve of this behavior; but I see reality. It is what it is; and it is fed by the public's clamor for Golden Calves.
