In the wake of his somewhat surprising and very soft-peddled victory in the CPAC straw poll, Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) is gearing up for a big showing at the next GOP cattle call. Pauls Campaign for Liberty has purchased 800 tickets for the event, held next month in New Orleans, at a total cost of $92,000.
If 800 Paul fans show up, would it be enough to win the events straw poll? Well, in 2006, Sen. Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) won the straw poll with a 36.9 percent plurality of only 1,427 ballots.
An email with some info about the big buy, after the jump:

Patrick Ruffini twittered live during the counting and said there was something funny going on- there was an unusually high number of people voting they approved the job Obama was doing.
But Ron Paul is no friend of Sarah Palins. Ron Paul considers Sarah part of the counry club republicains as well as her supporters.
There’s 800 votes for Paul in the straw poll.
Ron Paul has become an annoying gnat. The “Ernest T. Bass” of politics.
Good catch, flagwaver, hmmmmmm........
Conversely, the FR button may be on some libertarian sites and that is why so many are flocking over here.
Ron Paul considers anyone who is not Ron Paul or a devoted follower of Ron Paul to be onerous.
I looked it up. You’re right, he said that.
I think Free Republic should drop that link.
I just went over there and snooped around a little and you're right. It's infested with Paul cultists. I wonder if that link was put up in the early days and the Paulestinians have taken it over since then? They're good at that and we all know they've tried (unsuccessfully) to do the same thing to FR.
I agree that it should be "de-linked."
I also see Campaign for Liberty.
But you know what, I don’t think it’s a big deal. The next thing you know, someone wants Hugh Hewitt removed or Club for Growth or someone else. LOL.
The main thing is to wake up more people, get the word out re Ron Paul/Libertarian infiltration. I don’t hear ANYONE on talk radio covering this.
BS!!
98% of those that voted at CPAC had a strong disproval rating of the ZERO.
Ruffini misleading himself and others that don't care to verify the results.
There is always room for truth telling on Romney
Did you know that for months Mitt Romney spread the lie that Reagan was “Adamantly pro-choice” until he finally succeeded in creating a permanent internet anti-Reagan myth?
Ron Paul and Mitt Romney both disliked Reagan didn’t they but Romney even more, right?
2% is high for that venue.
Seriously folks, did it ever occur to you that maybe some Ron Paul supporters donate all the time to FR? Maybe a lot? I’ve donated when I barely had enough to keep my home and now I’ll just say I’m much better off now. Why would you want to chase people away who want to help keep FR alive?
Ron Paul is NOT a Republican but Libertarian and as such, many of those libertarian policies fly in the face of conservatism.
The Paul followers will never convince conservatives to embrace those policy points which border on anarchy.
Yeah, 2% of 2395 voting is high, HUGH (e) for the event. WRONG.
LOL.
Did it ever occur to you that some of us who are vehemently opposed to many of Ron Paul's policies and tactics are also regular contributors to FR?
Who is chasing you off? Paultards are too fun to mock.
