On Thursday, big utility operators and some state officials blasted the administration's formal announcement that it would drop plans for a federal nuclear-waste vault beneath Yucca Mountain, Nev., For years, my power company has been paying into the fund that would develop Yucca Mountain as the repository for their nuclear waste. Of course this cost has been passed down to me in higher utility rates. Since the Federal Government has now acted in bad faith and has defaulted on its legal obligation, I want my money back.

Exactly. That’s what France is doing and they get 80% of their electricity from nuclear energy.

Bingo. We’ve all been paying for Yucca and the costs went up considerably every time the gubermint added more scope changes.
I foresee a large class action suit against the government by the utilities.
Still don’t understand why Yucca is off-limits for its intended purpose.

All the money was invested into the the toxic subprime market, and you know what happened to it!

Still dont understand why Yucca is off-limits for its intended purpose.Because all the money that was going to pay for the disposal work vanished. The politicians now have to find another location, and set up a another 'pay first' kitty that they will then loot while the location is being 'developed'.
Same thing happened to RETIREMENT ACCOUNTS, HEALTH CARE FUNDING ACCOUNTS, UNION PENSION ACCOUNTS.
It all 'disappeared' into somebody's pockets, and we have to pay 'again' to cover the loss.

Interesting. Hubby worked on this project and would bang his head against the wall [figuratively] at the continuous obstruction thrown into the process by the gov’t.
Very frustrating.
