Howard Dean speaking truth to power. I’m speechless.
“Howard Dean speaking truth to power. Im speechless.”
Actually, he’s doing no such thing. First, no matter what happens, he’ll take credit for it. That is, if the plan dies, he’ll say it’s because Obama pursued a stupid strategy that led to a loss that could have been avoided if only Obama had listened to Howard Dean. Conversely, if the plan passes, the Democrats will pay a price at the polls and Dean can say “I told you so.” Second, in the best case, they’ll listen to his advice, which is to open up Medicare to tens of millions of people. But of course “Medicare for all” is what progressives have wanted all along. So Dean is essentially exploiting the crisis created by Obama’s inept handling of this issue to try and move the outcome in a direction he prefers. Rahm Emanuel isn’t the only one who recognizes that a crisis is a terrible thing to waste.
