Health professionals applaud as President Obama speaks about health care reform at the White House. Blue Dog Democratic Rep. Bart Stupak says he's counted 11 lawmakers plus himself willing to kill President Obama's health care overhaul over abortion language.
Stupak, of Michigan, sponsored a provision in the House of Representative's health care bill that passed last fall that clearly prohibits the use of federal money to pay for abortions. That language did not make it into the Senate bill, the model Obama is using to craft the plan he is expected to send to Congress shortly.
"We're not gonna vote for this bill with that kind of language in there," Stupak said Thursday in an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America."
"I want to see health care, but we're not gonna bypass some principles and belief that we feel strongly about," he said, adding that he's "prepared to take responsibility" for bringing down the bill.
Obama has urged the Senate to use the "reconciliation" procedure to pass the bill, which would allow Democrats to avoid a 60-vote majority needed to strike down a filibuster but would demand that lawmakers vote only on matters that impact the budget. Before that happens, however, House Democrats can prevent the legislation from reaching the Senate.

One has to wonder whether these Congressmen ever think about what this “health care bill” is going to do to their extended families. After all, not everyone is covered by the elites’ government insurance plans.
This power-monger has done nothing yet. This is not about health care. It is, and has always been, about POWER AND CONTROL. It embodies everything from buying votes from illegals and non-workers, unions, and other thug supporters to killing old people to pay for the vote buying. And top it off with the taking of freedoms and rights away from the American people. The Obama agenda.
We know what the purpose of this egregious draconian piece of so-called legislation is about.

You sound a lot like Glenn Beck yesterday! He actually had video of Stern saying that he was buying politicians. I think he admitted to spending 170 million in the last election cycle doing just that. I felt ill after I heard him.

Tonight, Barack Obama will host ten House Democrats who voted against the health care bill in November at the White House; he’s obviously trying to persuade them to switch their votes to yes. One of the ten is Jim Matheson of Utah. The White House just sent out a press release announcing that today President Obama nominated Matheson’s brother Scott M. Matheson, Jr. to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
