I suppose this is good news. But, it's a little bit like having the Pope issue an edict and expecting the backwoods Appalachian snake handlers church to abide by it.

...it's a little bit like having the Pope issue an edict... It is even worse than that. Islam has no central authoritative figure such as a pope. There are clerics and scholars and they could never agree among themselves who has more binding authority. The Sunni vs. Shi'ite split is just one proof of that. So if one issues a fatwa, no big deal.
