F-35 IOC Delayed by 2 years, Nunn-McCurdy Breach Probable

Last week, Pentaton officials formalized the restructuring of the Lockeed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program, extending the current SSD test phase by 13 months to November 2015. The IOC of the F-35 is now expected in late 2015 as well, two years later than originally planned.

Today, U.S. Air Force Secretary Michael Donley told reporters that a major cost overrun, triggering a Nunn-McCurdy budget limit breach, is probable.

“We’ve been taking all the mitigating and corrective actions we would take as if there were a Nunn-McCurdy breach,” Donley says. “But, exactly what the parameters of that might look like and when they will be reported, I’m not quite sure yet. We are still working through all these details.”

Truly, the JSF is the Joint Strike Failure.

The 2 year delay bothers me more than the cost overruns.

Dont know what all the problems are, but it would seem they could at least get going on the Air Force version.

This kind of controversy is not new though. I remember it happened for the B-1 and the F-18 when they were still in development.

Sometimes I wonder if Boeing would’ve done a better job. Lockheed’s really a screw-up sometimes.

Too bad Kelly Johnson isn’t around. Then again, seeing as how bad Lockheed is screwing this pooch; maybe he wouldn’t want to be.

SONOBUOY PING!

Click on pic for past Navair pings.

Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.
