Will Hutchison ever resign?
The Dallas Morning News ^ | March 1, 2010 | Colleen McCain Nelson

Posted on 03/02/2010 3:22:51 PM PST by Clintonfatigued

You'd think after several failed attempts to offer a realistic timeline of when she might resign from the Senate, Kay Bailey Hutchison might just stop answering the question that keeps getting her in trouble. But for some reason, she took another stab at it on Mark Davis' radio show, moving the target yet again.

She changed her last promise to resign after the primary (which sure sounded like soon after the primary) to "sometime this year before the November elections." Those words had hardly left Hutchison's mouth when a campaign aide offered a clarification, saying that the timing really was dependent on the health care debate. "If it's not finished til next January, she'll be there til next January," Jennifer Baker said.

So, if the health care debate drags on for years, will Hutchison serve another couple terms in the Senate? And doesn't Baker's suggestion that Hutchison might still be in Washington come next year presume that she loses this election?

Just to recap, Hutchison and her aides have pledged that she'll leave the Senate: 1. in October or November 2009 2. after the GOP primary 3. before the November 2010 election 4. whenever health care is resolved, even if that's 2011

I'm generally agnostic about the question of when or if Hutchison should resign from the Senate.I just wish for her campaign's sake that she would stop setting deadlines that she can't seem to meet.

I was looking forward to Hutchison’s resignation. I’ll admit that her voting record is OK, but Texas could do better.

Comrade Colleen at the Dallas Morning Propaganda ONLY wants the another opportunity for a Dem party pick up and force the GOP to defend a seat.

Trust me Colleen would cheer this same reaction as just fine if a Dem seat was opening up !

She should keep her word and resign. I think that if she resigns now Gov. Perry can call the special election for November, since I’m pretty sure that it’s the next regular election day 36 or more days after the vacancy. That would allow Perry to name Michael Williams to fill the Senate vacancy and serve for 8 months prior to the special election; if other Republicans jump in, the Senate election would be thrown into a December run-off.

But maybe Perry can call the special election for an earlier date, and have the run-off take place on the November general-election date. That would reduce the Democrat’s chance of winning from 5% to 1%.

ACU has her lifetime rating at 89%(not too bad); but, she keeps trending left and dropped to 76% for ‘08. When they start that sort of trend they should be replaced/retired.

You’re correct, Texas can and should do better

KBH is a DC zombie. If she does not win her primary, she will hold on to her Senate seat. She can’t let go of power. She no longer represents either the people or the state. Just herself.

This is how I see it. If she was really interested in the welfare of Texas she would have resigned before she ran for governor of Texas. What she did is came here and immediately started a negative campaign. If she doesn’t win, she will just flit back to DC and finish out her term and probably run again. I think what her overall affect on this election is to weaken the Republican party and give the Dems a chance to win in November. If Perry wins, the first thing the Dems will do during their campaign is bring up all the negative crap Kay threw out about him. I will no longer support Kay Hutchinson for any political office.

I will no longer support Kay Hutchinson for any political office.

If she wants to keep her seat, Kay Bailey will have to run in another primary in 2012.

I'm voting for the challenger.

Her campaign this time around revealed just how out of touch she is and how Washingtonian she has become.

We'll all be better off with her "spending more time with the family."
