My parent's had elderly friends whose daughter was Tower's state campaign chair. She lived in Wichita Falls.

I thought I was in H.S. --must have been in college.

Her E TX parents were the first Repubs I knew. I was 16 and remember my mother whispering, "They're Republicans." Then the man took my dad to hear RR. My parents were Repubs before it was cool.

I was more interested in who could get their car so we could go get a coke at the drive-in.

Later when I was living in Houston, I was Repub when we met in a phone booth on Westheimer in the Galleria area. The GHW Bushes were at my precinct meetings. I don't remember his title at the time. I think Bill Archer was our congressman.

Those were the fun days!
