Sarah Palin stormed the bestseller list last year with "Going Rogue"-a political memoir whose title coyly referenced the former GOP vice presidential nominee's supposed defiance of the consultants running the McCain campaign. But this year we have a new poster boy for the Going Rogue playbook: GOP Sen. Jim Bunning of Kentucky. For the past week, Bunning has been single-handedly blocking more than a million Americans from receiving unemployment and COBRA health insurance benefits, as of today, when their benefits funded under the 2009 stimulus law run out. The suspension of benefits affects everyone from doctors to government employees

Well, seems one senator has some very big balls. Though I'm not sure if he's just doing this to spite Congress or because he's really against the nanny state.

I don’t care what his reason is; I’m just glad someone is standing up to these drunken sailors spending our money. And I’m also glad he gave the reporters “the finger” for getting in his face about it.

How long have these people been on unemployment? Was this yet another extension?

if its a bad bill then he should hold it up...i find it hard to believe one lone republican can do this....but people need jobs not temporary handouts...just like they need jobs to pay the mortgage

He's insisting they follow the Paygo law they just passed two weeks ago. He's insisting they fund the bill with the unused TARP funds instead of piling it on top of the deficit. DemonRATs are furious because they want to be able to sit on the TARP money to use as their November slush fund.

At what point are we just going to decide to pay people for life for doing nothing? We are broke and then some.

No to the headline. The Senator is ENFORCING Pay as You Go which OBANA just signed into law.

As usual, the Dems do not believe any law, precedent, policy, or rule should impact anything they want to do.

And, as usual, the Dems/media are yelling a falsehood in order to make political points.

Stand firm, Senator Bunning--but please, grab a microphone and set it straight.

“Good for him.”

I’m unanimous on that. Hard to shed a tear as I work every day and on weekends, pay taxes, pay my bills, and have to stay within a budget. And I’m sick and tired of people bragging as to how BoBama is going to continue their unemployment for a half-year here and a half-year there. I gotta’ work during the week . . .

Harry Reid had a bipartisan bill until he took everything bipartisan out of it. And now he blames an R for being non-cooperative.

It never ceases to amaze me, everyday the msm outdoes it’s self from the previous day in partisan hack reporting. Even though I’ve come to expect it, it still surprises me.

He’s right, but not right enough. Unemployment insurance shouldn’t be delayed, it Must be Ended. It is nothing but blatant socialism. If you can’t hold a job, why should the rest of the working population pay you through government thievery?

No True Conservative, not Reagan, not Goldwater, not Rush, not Sarah Palin, would ever Accept dollars from this kind of socialist program

Like Medicare and Social Security, Unempoymet Insurance Must be Ended by a Truly Conservative Administration.

This is only happening because Reid is happy to let it happen.

At any time in the last week, Reid could have filed cloture on the bill. There are plenty of republicans who would have voted with the democrats for cloture, and 2 days later they would pass the bill.

Bunning is being allowed to block this because the democrats are hoping the media will make this out to be a “bad republican” story.
