Topeka aims to become Google Internet test site (Google the ISP)

TOPEKA, Kan. – A campaign to make Topeka a test site for a new, ultrafast Internet service is gathering speed.

Google Inc. announced plans Feb. 10 to build and test new high-speed broadband networks in one or more places around the country. The company says the system of fiber-optic cables would deliver Internet connections 100 times faster than most systems now available.

I wonder how much they'll charge...

I would venture to guess that the charge will be very low. It's a technology testbed, and more importantly, it's a services testbed. Deliver bandwidth and see how much the piggies will take. Will high-res TV (with Google Ads) and movies be part of the service? I think so.

Right now Youtube for the past couple of weeks has been extremely slow here in Dallas...I wonder if they have something on the works for Youtube?

Google? the search engine which records every query you type in and as stated by one of the Google founders, has an obligation to fork over the info to the Feds?

Suddenlink has a high-speed fiber line for West Texas, so not sure if this would benefit us here really.
