Supporters dismiss Marco Rubio's use of Florida GOP credit card
St. Petersburg Times ^ | February 28, 2010 | Adam Smith

Posted on 02/27/2010 4:13:55 PM PST by Brandonmark

Amid revelations about how Republican U.S. Senate front-runner Marco Rubio wielded his Florida GOP credit card as state House speaker (not exactly conservatively), it seems some of his most vocal conservative supporters are plenty forgiving.

Rubio agreed to reimburse the state party about $3,000 after the St. Petersburg Times/Miami Herald bureau revealed that while House speaker he double-billed the state party and Florida taxpayers for eight flights between Miami and Tallahassee.

Club for Growth spokesman Michael Connolly: "Sounds like Marco is doing the right thing reimbursing taxpayers for the $3,000. Hopefully Gov. Crist can do the same thing about that $787 billion he owes us."

RedState's Erick Erickson: "It doesn't give me any pause in supporting him. Life happens and with it mistakes. Considering the executive director of the party (Delmar Johnson) spent as much in a month as Rubio did in multiple years, I don't think it is a big issue. I can't wait for the open records acts on Charlie Crist's international travel and minibar raids. Rubio's expenditures are peanuts in comparison."

An exception was Tampa GOP consultant and conservative pundit Chris Ingram, a fierce Crist critic who was unimpressed with Rubio attacking Crist allies for leaking credit card records.

"Who cares if the records were leaked? That doesn't matter," Ingram said. "You got your hand caught in the cookie jar, and you should be taking ownership and responsibility."

We were charged twice for a plane ticket. Seriously. We were charged for me, two children, LA to SACTO at the exact same time on the exact same date and day. Of course we fought it armed with our ticket stub and check etc...

Rubio paid it back and did it before it was an issue I believe. At any rate...it woudln’t deter me from voting for him. Someone made a mistake. I hope he takes Florida by STORM.

Schauer admitted to twenty-two violations. That's nearly 5 ½ years in jail.

And still has his job - like you say. Amazing and he's a freshman to boot!

Tim Walberg is set to take the seat back this year, He’s showing a 10 point lead in early polling.

I agree, this might be a Crist trick so voters shouldn’t jump too high or fast. However, this charge-o-mania that is on display took place while he’s campaigning this time around. Had it been a thing of the past, before encountering support from the Tea Party, it would go down easier. As it is I, as a Fl. voter, am starting to feel a little betrayed.

He has some good ammunition that Schauer so willingly gave him! Let’s hope the 10% lead grows to allow for ACORN votes.

In case anybody wants to help elect a staunch fiscal and social conservative in Michigan.

Rubio is a good man and has my support. I’ve sent him about $100 and may send more.

He is a far better man than C.C.

Just remember the source...Adam Smith .... friend of Mitt and you won’t feel betrayed any longer. It’s them that LIVE to betray. I’m not a FL voter but I would have no qualms voting for Rubio if I were; in fact I’d be looking forward to it. I feel the same for AZ, wished I lived there to get rid of McCain! I’m watching both states in hope of victory!

This is the first I have heard of double billing.

Double billing was used by Bechtel
that built the BIG DIG, you know that tunnel under water
built with one wall and collapsing ceilings?

ROMNEY TELL BECHTEL OFF FOR CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS.
Romney was quite familiar with double billing.

It bothers me too. What kind of person uses a credit card provided by the GOP for personal expenses?

My job provides me a with credit card, and I wouldn’t dare use it for a penny of personal expenses.

The only reason why conservatives are still solidly behind him is because the other options, Crist and Meek, are total disasters.

Back to voting for the lesser of two evils. Great!
