On my USGS Live Bookmark feed, there were two earthquakes listed as in Central CA at 4.1 and 3.3 shortly after the big one in Chile.


It seems probable that an 8.5 would certainly trigger activity even that far away.

t seems probable that an 8.5 would certainly trigger activity even that far away.No, those earthquakes you saw are typical for our area. We have earthquakes here all the time, almost on a daily basis, 14,000' mountain range here (Sierra Nevada) and lots of volcanic cones.
