No earthquakes/tornadoes/really bad hurricanes/mud slides/tsunamis/Muzslimes (well, up north here) ;o)
:o)
Hi it's bd476. Apparently something happened to my account, which prevented my posting this so I logged into my kid's account.
Agree that's it's something you never forget. Yet unlike you as a child in the middle of a big quake, as an adult it seems that I should have been somewhat immune to the initial fright.
The block I lived on at the time lost nine buildings that day. I was about 15 miles Southeast of the Northridge epicenter, yet directly over an otherwise unknown undetected fault line.
During a large quake prior to the Northridge quake which as I recall was around 5.8 Magnitude, I had grabbed my cat and dashed outside wearing only my extra large jammie shirt. I realized my indiscretion only when I heard my next door neighbor who was firmly entrenched in his doorway begin laughing and say "Hey, are you okay?" How embarrassing. :D
In my nearly two years stationed there the worst thing we had were typhoons..Okinawa’s buildings are concrete and pretty strong to withstand typhoons so hopefully any damage is minor..fingers crossed.
I loved Oki.
Okay, bout time...a 5.1 aftershock.

I wonder if magnitude 5.1 at a depth of 15 miles could cause a tsunami itself?
Normally it would not.
I think the big one woke up up Long Valley though. If you are interested here are the two main recorders showing relatively rapid small quakes.

If it continues I will start a thread for it.
