McConnell cites polls supporting public opposition to current bill and, as a remedy, proposes and transparency in creating a new one to make constituents/public more comfortable and informed about the HC reform.
Obama counters by saying everyone wants all the individual items in the bill...what is not mentioned is if those everyones are willing to pay for those things as per the current proposal.
That is a lie. What is true is that for MOST individual items in the bill, a majority of the people think they sound good.
But first, it isn't ALL the items in the bill -- it's only the benefits, not the taxes, and not even all the "benefits" are polled.
Second, and maybe more importantly, each one is polled by itself -- nobody is asked if they like ALL of them.
It would be easy to make a list of 8 items, each of which gets majority support. But if you put that 8 together, it is likely that only 20% support ALL of them, and it could well be that a large majority would rather have NOTHING than those 8 things together.
For example. Suppose you have 10 people, and you are trying to make an entree for dinner for all of them. 7 choose chicken, 6 choose a white sauce, 8 choose rice, 6 choose broccolli, and 6 choose raisins.
Sounds good, right? 60% must be completely satisfied.
But then you look at this: 2 are allergic to raisins, 3 hate brocolli, 2 are vegetarians, and 2 are lactose intolerant.
And it turns out that 9 of the 10 people can't eat the entree that had NO ingredient with less than 60% approval.
Of course, in the Senate health plan they also threw in a dozen ingredients that had no support at all, and charged you a hundred bucks for it.
